Frances Patella’s photo based mixed media work has been exhibited in numerous public and private galleries and has won awards, including a mid-career grant from the Ontario Arts Council. She is active in the Toronto arts community as a Director of the Board of Propeller Center for The Visual Arts and the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition as Chair of Jury and Judges. Frances has taught visual arts and analogue photography in the Toronto District School Board, and has conducted workshops for the Photo Educators Forum and the National Gallery of Photography. She has also received numerous Artists in Education grants through the Ontario Arts Council.
Frances introduces a temporal aspect to the representation of the landscape, using photo mosaics of the controlled burns of the Southern Ontario Oak Savannahs, primarily in High Park. Taken at different intervals of time, the 4 x 6 proofs are joined to create a larger scene.
